Coastal Settlement X Demand & Supply X Yi Dian Xin X Heng Hwa Restaurant X Holy Cow Creamery

I finally went to Coastal Settlement. I wanted to go there for a really long time already but the only thing that deterred me from going is the location. I mean, i don't stay in the East anymore. Even if i do, it's still quite a hassle. I wanted to have their Tom Yum Pasta and the Wagyu pizza. Unfortunately, B and i reached there at 3.30pm and they only serve their mains after 5pm :'( So unlucky.

Since we were there, we just ordered their sides. It was quite crazy actually. I think we were starving so we ordered 3 sides to share and i had a chocolate banana milkshake all to myself. Worst decision ever?! Cos everything was fried and we were just sick of it after a while.

Portobello Mushroom fries, Calamari and Truffle fries (not in picture)

Do not, i repeat, do not order their calamari. We had our worst calamari there. Prior to this, i thought calamari is idiot-proof. Like, how bad could it be right? This was bad. I like their portobello fries and truffle fries though! I especially love their truffle mayo. The chocolate banana milkshake was average, nothing fantastic. Having said that, i'd still come back and try their mains.

For dinner, we decided to have Din Tai Fung.

I ordered the month's special minced meat in mushroom sauce (or something like that) while B had the normal zha jiang mian. I would have ordered their fried rice but i was too full for rice that day. This didn't disappoint though. We also ordered their hot and spicy soup to share and well, it was a hit and miss. If you are planning to try this, don't bother. I'm pretty sure they have other dishes that are so much worth trying on their menu.

Met my pokpoks for dinner last Friday. I wanted to go Hai Di Lao but i was the 99th person in the queue so we gave it a miss and went to Supply and Demand for dinner. Btw, HDL only called me at 9+ so thank god we didn't wait for a table.

My aglio olio that was a bit too oily and salty for my liking. It was alright though, just not impressive.

Can't remember the name of the pizza but pizza could never go wrong huh? Except Pizza Hut's. Do y'all prefer thick crust or thin crust? I like thin crust pizza!

Because joanne, bee and i reached first, we ordered their truffle fries to share while waiting for the latecomers. I thought it was not bad. It was nothing over the roof but the sauce that came with it was good and also, i like fat fries. Lol

Hung out and went to chill at Bar Bar Black Sheep to have a talk over some beer.

Was supposed to go to the flea with ying on Sat but i came home late on friday (reached home at 2am and only slept at 3+) and was so tired i couldn't wake up. Met B late afternoon and we went to Yi Dian Xin to try their dim sum. Apparently, they won quite a few awards. Bryan found them on Seth Lui's blog so we decided to give it a go.

My favourite is their chives dumplings. Their carrot cake and xiao long bao were not bad although i prefer DTF's xlb but for the price, i thought it was quite worth it. Total bill came up to about $35.

I thought it was pretty funny that we had to order our drinks from the coffee shop opposite. Lol. This is a small coffee shop that doesn't have a drink stall. We must have looked really lost because after that they came up to us and told us, "The drink stall is opposite." So Bryan had to cross the small road to get drinks for us. Haha.

We have been feeling quite adventurous with food lately. B and i decided to travel to Yishun to try the 928 assam laksa and Heng Hwa Restaurant.

No photo of the laksa but i thought it was just average. Thankfully the queue wasn't long, we managed to get our food within 5 mins. Bryan's heart will forever be with Katong laksa haha. I thought Katong Laksa was better too even though i've never found laksa to be really delicious.

Heng Hwa Restaurant was like a hidden gem in Yishun though. I came home to tell my parents about it and they just went on Monday right after i told them about it.

Total bill came up at $35 with drinks. We had the set for 2 and swapped one of their dishes to the pork ribs for an additional $2 charge. We reached at about 7+ and had to wait for a while to get a table. If you don't want to share a table with other people, you have to wait even longer. We shared table with another group of 2.

Their white bee hoon is nothing like Sembawang's. While i thought it might be too dry, it actually wasn't. The seaweed was crispy and i thought it was a nice contrast with the noodles. The taste wasn't too strong so if you think it might be too blend, add a bit of chili. The best dish on the table is the prawns in herbs soup. The soup is the bomb. B and i finished all the soup haha.

Headed to Holy Cow Creamery to have desserts. This place is really crowded so be prepared to queue.

We had thai milk tea ice cream and another flavour i couldn't remember because B did the ordering. I love their ice cream! I like how the milk tea taste was so full of flavour and the consistent of the ice cream was really smooth. The waffle, however, paled in comparison. Maybe i was biased because i like waffles that are a little crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Holy Cow's waffle was just soft and didn't make an impression on me.

No Other Meaning - NOM

2 weeks ago, i told Bryan that i would bring him to try out a new cafe but didn't tell him where and what. We have this thing going on whereby we will bring each other to try out new eateries. + 1 point for me because he hadn't heard of NOM then. When he knew i was bringing him to Macpherson CC, he threw me the "What the hell... you serious?" look.

In the end he was quite impressed and kept asking me how i found the hidden gem.

I asked him to take a photo of me so he took my phone and took a selfie instead. This boy here doesn't know the angles and all. Lol all his selfies look so awkward and weird.

I had the Fish Burger and he ordered the Ultimate NOM Burger which tastes magnificent, for the price we paid. His huge burger only cost us $13.90 while my fish burger is only $10.90. + point for the affordable cafe food.

 Oreo flavoured Rainbow Cake

I'll admit, the sole reason for bringing him to NOM is because i want to try their rainbow cake. I just cannot resist pretty cakes, especially rainbow ones. Hehe. I was actually there to try their Salted Caramel flavour but they were only left with Oreo. It wasn't too bad, i like how the cake is not too dense and heavy so even after our meals, we could still stomach it down. The oreo taste is slightly blend but it'll suffice.

Even though the food here is generally affordable, the rainbow cakes are around the same price as other cafes. It's $7.90 per slice

Bryan told me this cafe made it to his list of favourite cafes because it's cheap and good. In fact, we actually went back one week later! This time, we only had their desserts. Again, the salted caramel cake was sold out :( We went at about 3-4pm and was told that their bakers are making the salted caramel cake now but it would only be available at night.

Chocolate Rainbow Cake + Caramel Pecan Cheesecake

Personally, i prefer the oreo flavoured one. The chocolate one is just mediocre so it didn't leave an impression on me. As for the cheesecake, the consistency of it is very well done. It's a bit heavy (well, it's cheesecake) but the caramel and the pecans complement each other really well.

We went back to my house after that for my family steamboat because my parents were going to Malacca for a short trip. This Bryan just want to play his game..... boys -_-

Psst, just want to say that both my tops are from thelimelightthief.blogspot.sg. I especially love the grey one (I have it in black too) because it's basic and so versatile. I've been wearing them to death haha.

Assembly Coffee X November 8

A selfie on my way to work ^^. I told myself not to cab to work anymore but i was damn late already plus I waited for 30mins for a freaking cab but to no avail. In the end i had to call a cab -_- I only reached the office at 10.30am btw but it's ok since it was my last day. Lol.

Kai xin de

Settled some stuff at work and Ying came to pick me up at about 12.30pm because we were going on a cafe adventure!

We went to pick Mel up and off we go!

1st stop: Assembly Coffee

I've been wanting to try this cafe for ages because i heard so much about their waffles! I came here a few days before this trip with Mel after my work but it was closed :( So when we planned to cafe hopped, i suggested it immediately.

I'm happy with the food! We ordered a smoked salmon croissant and an earl grey caramel waffle to share. Look at the eggs on the croissant *hearts eyes* it's really yummy! I love anything with eggs and i really appreciate it when they cook eggs to perfection.

The waffle also didn't disappoint. Look at that plate of goodness. The ice cream on top actually doesn't tastes like anyhing haha. I think the caramel sauce overpowered it. In fact, the waffle doesn't taste like earl grey waffle too. But whatever, it's just good.

I ordered a cup of iced chocolate which was just meh. I concluded that The Bravery serves the BEST iced chocolate. Melissa ordered a cup of latte and Ying ordered some mini drink (the only mini drink on the menu).

 Omg i'm salivating now

My face getting fatter because i keep eating. Lol #storyofmylife

We were quite full by then but we headed to our next stop : November 8

This time we only ordered a rosti to share. Truth to be told, the food is not fantastic but the ambience is good. I really like the interior of it and also the fact that it's not so cramp/small like many cafes nowadays.

The sauce they used for the salad and the eggs is quite nice though. As for the rosti (which should be the nicest), it kinda sucks.

Sushi Tei X Kombi Rocks

I'm using Bryan's Macbook to blog now because my Macbook is dying. It's in critical condition and i'm getting real testy because i tried to do my stuff at 1.06pm and by 3.15pm, nothing was done. My screen just keeps freezing :'( Sigh it has only been 2 years..... Gonna get a new one at the PC Fair coming up in June.

To Sushi Tei for dinner! I've been craving for it for so long because i love their mentai sushi and their sashimi salad. Now i'm craving for Koh's Grill & Sushi Bar's shiok maki.

Also finally worn my Pandora out after so long.

wo shi ah boy

On Tuesday/Wednesday, i met Bryan after my work to have dinner at Kombi Rocks! He read online and the reviews say that the food is so so only but the ambience is quite good. Well, it's really true. The food is really mediocre and it's expensive considering that it's a simple fare.

I went to google what food to eat and people recommended seafood hor fun, ngor hiang and red wine chicken wings. So we ordered that along with what the staff recommended. There were a handful of negative online reviews though.

Staff's recommendation. Quite meh i would say.

 Ngor Hiang

Thai fish cake..... tastes like normal fish cake to me.

Red Wine Chicken Wings

Out of all the dishes, our favourite is ngor hiang. It's really quite yummy albeit oily. The rest are really mediocre lor. Haha i can't find a better word to describe it. The red wine chicken wings don't have any red wine taste. It's just sweet and the prawn crackers on top aren't crispy. Thai fish cake really tastes like any normal fish cake to me and the vegetable is a bit blend on the palate though it's still acceptable to me. I have tasted better hor fun for the price we paid for this.

We walked around after dinner and found a barber shop, Autocutt. The shop seems quite indie and B was in need of a haircut so i waited for him.
