Day 6 & 7: 九份, 十份 & Cafehopping

Day 6

Day 6 saw us going to 九份 & 十份. While waiting for our car to come, we wandered around for a bit. It was our last day in Taichung. Itinerary for that day was: From Taichung >九份 >十份 > Taipei > Check into the hotel at Ximending (西门町).

OOTD
Sweater: Miss Selfridge
Jeans: Topshop
Shoes: New Balance
Sunglasses: Rayban

I thought i was dressed warm enough since the sweater is pretty thick imo, but nope, the wind was so strong so i was kinda underdressed again haha. But it's ok, i kinda enjoy the cold anyway. Beats Singapore's weather any day.

Since we 包车, we went to a few places. If i'm not wrong, this is the 阴阳海 (below).

Hehe this goldie is so cute. It was running around happily

 黄金瀑布

I didn't know waterfall is called 瀑布 in mandarin lol. Coming to Taiwan has made me realised my mandarin sucks...

My smile looked so forced hahaha. I think it was too cold or something lol

Went to 九份 to have our lunch. No picture of our lunch cos we were too hungry. It was raining cats and dogs but 九份 was still very crowded that day...so many tourists. Frankly speaking, i think you can skip 九份 and 十份 unless you wanna release sky lantern at 十份.

Peanut popiah ice cream which i loveeeee

There were a number of stalls selling yam ball but i wanna get the "legit" one so i went to google and we walked around for a bit before i finally found 懒阿婆芋园. There's another one that's famous too but we settled for this and it was so good omg. I polished the whole bowl lol.

Spent about an hour at 九份 before moving on to 十份 to release sky lantern.

大肠包小肠

We left for Taipei around 5pm-ish. Deposited our luggage at our airbnb at ximending and went to ximending night market aka 西门町夜市. It was just 5min walk away from our apartment hehe. First stop: 阿宗麵線

阿宗麵線 was sooooo good. I think we had it about 3-4 times while we were there haha. I think the weather also made it more enjoyable. It was so shiok eating something warm when it was cold. The weather was ranged from 15 to max 21 degrees in Taipei.

Ximending is also famous for the 王子起司馬鈴薯 so of course, we had to try. I wouldn't say this is super good although i love potato and cheese. It would have been better if they fry the potato upon ordering so that it would be hot and crispy. They fry it beforehand (probably for faster service cos there's always a queue for this) hence the potato was a little cold already. It was still shiok though.

Day 7

The rest went to Taipei Zoo but homegirl wasn't interested so ying and i decided to go cafehopping. We basically ate almost every hour that day wtf.

OOTD
Top: Hong Kong
Skirt: Topshop
Coat: Topshop
Boots: Charles & Keith

Just wanna say i bought this pair of boots for around $15 during their warehouse sales 2 years ago hehe. What a good buy

Breakfast at 鴨肉扁土鵝專賣店

We ordered an additional plate of duck meat for NT300 (SGD$13). For that few pieces of meat, both of us think that it was too pricey. The meat was quite tender but nope, still not worth it.

Us being lazy, decided to cab down to the first cafe i wanted to try - Rahdesign Cafe. We ordered a piece of cake to share and a drink each. The place was really nice and quiet. Y'know how singapore's cafes are so cramped and crowded? Although more people started coming in later, we didn't feel like our privacy was invaded as there was a nice distance between tables.

Ordered a Matcha Latte for me and i loved it. It was a nice balance between the matcha and milk as they don't overpower each other. The sweetness was just right too. The texture of the chocolate cake was dense and smooth. Most importantly, I like how it wasn't too chocolatey. I pretty much enjoyed Rahdesign.

Our next stop is Haritts Donut. Funny how when i googled i realised it came from Japan but when i was in Japan, i didn't even try this haha. Took public transport and used google maps to take us here.

They have this rule that each person has to order a drink if you wanna dine in. When we reached there in the noon, they were only left with about 4 flavours. In the end, ying took away 2 because they didn't have anything i want. So if you wanna try this, go really early.

Was supposed to go to Drip Cafe next but they were full and asked us to come back in an hour. Hence, we hopped into another cafe nearby haha. See, i told you we kept eating that day.

We ordered a lemon curd tart and a strawberry cake at Alex Patisserie. The latter was nothing impressive. What we loved is the lemon curd tart! The tart was a little hard to cut though, in the end, we used a knife hahaha. The lemon curd was also a little too sweet but overall it was pretty good.

Finally, we moved on to our last cafe for the day. Unfortunately, at Drip Cafe, everyone has to order a drink as well. I don't really get this... Initially, i thought maybe they have this rule because sometimes it's unfair to them when customers just order a drink and sit down to do their work or chat for hours. But Drip Cafe also limits each table to 60 or 90mins.... so what's the deal?

Anyway food is good lah so no complaints haha. Their 奶油鸡肉面 (chicken carbonara) was really delicious. We were super stuffed already since we kept eating but almost everyone recommended this online so i told ying we had to try. And we polished the whole plate too omg. I would love to come back for this again.

Ordered 草莓可拿滋 because it's very photogenic LOL. Actually, a lot of people recommended this as well so we ordered one to share. And i'm glad it didn't disappoint too. The top and bottom are cronuts (hybrid of croissant and donut) so it was a little soft on the inside but crispy and flaky on the outside. I've finally tried cronut after hearing about them for ages haha

My 焦糖玛奇朵 (caramel macchiato).

After eating sooooo much, we needed to walk around to digest so we went to this place called 忠孝敦化商圈. Alight at Zhong Xiao Dun Hua MRT station and come out by exit 1. You should see Aldo on your right. Go around the building and there's a whole area full of shops selling hipster clothes haha. It's like haji lane in Singapore, just much bigger.

The clothes were really much nicer as compared to other places we've been to. If you wanna go to Dazzling Cafe, it's around this area too. We didn't go there cos i'm not interested and we were still full. We shopped around for a bit before making our way back to ximending to meet 2 of our other friends who just arrived in Taipei.

Our host recommended 馬辣頂級麻辣鴛鴦火鍋 to us so we decided to try that. Just a heads up, be prepared to queue because this place is really popular. We went around 8pm and didn't need to queue so lucky us. But when we were leaving, the queue was really long.

Anyway, i think there were 5 soup bases to choose from - we chose mala and superior soup. It's a buffet so free flow of everything hahaha. The best part, which is my favourite part, was the ice cream. They have LOTS of Movenpick and Haagen Daz ice cream. When i say lots, i really mean almost all the flavours. I had a total of like... 6-8scoops of ice cream i think LOL. After conversion, it was about $30 each. Pretty worth it i would say.

After eating so much, we ended the night by chilling at a bar right in front of our apartment. We basically fed the mosquitoes there and left the place with so many mozzie bites on our legs. Zzz
