Day 3 : Takayama, Japan

Day 3 in Japan saw us waking up as early as 6am JST (that's 5am SG time btw). We planned to take a day trip to Takayama that day. Initially, we wanted to go Shirakawa-go too but that would mean spending extra money and frankly speaking, that place is a charmer in winter.

Look at that! However, it was summer then so it wouldn't be as pretty. We also found out that Takayama's Hida Folk Village has this kind of unique house so we decided to just stick to Takayama. I told B we can go shirakawa-go in winter next time! More excuse to go back to Japan lol.

We took the subway from our area to Nagoya Station and transferred to JR Hida Limited Express train to take us to Takayama. The train ride will take about 2h 20mins.

P.S I forgot to mention that if you need help planning your itinerary to Japan, use this website hyperdia.com. It is extremely helpful!

Early morning damn sian please...

Right after i finished my breakfast, i kinda knocked out for a while lol. In fact, i slept whenever we took long train rides.

I woke up every now and then and was greeted by this beautiful view the moment i looked out of the window.

The Hida Limited Express train is my favourite because of the wide windows. The windows made the sceneries look even more beautiful.

 GOOD MORNING TAKAYAMA! *Waves frantically*

Takayama is such a beauty. Dubbed as the preserved old town, this place certainly lives up to its name. Bryan took the map from the information office located right at the entrance of the station and we headed to the morning market. They have 2 morning markets and they close by 11am or noon. That was why we woke up at 6am JST.

When we were getting ready in the morning, B said, "Eh wear jeans today. Takayama is located in the mountains so it will be colder."

THANK GOD I DIDN'T LISTEN TO HIM. It was even hotter than Nagoya wtf but i don't blame him because that was what he read online.

Weird looking fruits/vegetables?!?!

If you think Paris Baguette's pudding is the best, you need to try these puddings. It's bombdiggybomb. How come the Japanese are so good at everything?

We were trying to position my camera on the table to take photos of us and the very nice owner offered to help us ^^

Hida Beef

THIS WAS SO DAMN GOOD but we only had a stick cos it costs us 500yen. Regret not buying a few more sticks though :(

Hmm.... i came here to shit hahaha.

The thing is, i have a problem shitting when i'm overseas :( I learned it the hard way when i went to HK with my family 2-3 years back and I didn't shit for 5-7 days (can't remember) and i had the worst stomachache when i came back to SG. It left me trembling and shaking because it was so painful and it scares me because i kinda had no control over my body at that point? Like i couldn't stop my hands from shaking wtf.

Since then, i made sure i camp in the toilet every night whenever i'm overseas hahaha. Managed to shit on my 3rd day yay! After the 6th day, i shat every single day there yo. So happy wtf lol. Can i also express my love for the toilets in Japan? If you know me well, you'd have known that i'm extremely particular about washrooms. In Japan, they have sanitiser at the side along with disposable toilet covers. The best part was the toilets in Japan were so clean.

I've seen cleaners going into each cubicle to clean after someone finishes her business. Even DisneySEA's toilets were super clean too!

Ok enough about my shit and washrooms. Moving on to lunch at this popular restaurant!

Well. Didn't see you there

Would have been better if the meat was chunky. Takayama is famous for their Hida Beef, the same beef we had on the stick, but we couldn't really taste the beef here since it was shredded. What a waste. Nonetheless, it was still a good meal :)

Hehe I have a backstory for this too. As usual, i was sleeping on the train when i was woken up by Bryan.

"Bebe wake up!"
I could barely open my eyes. ".....ya?"
"Look at the clouds in the mountain!"
"Huh?"
"Nice right?"
"Yeah... you woke me up to tell me this? I'm going back to sleep"

Shortly, Bryan fell asleep too. Halfway through, I woke up from my nap, looked out of the window, and was greeted by the same thing so.....

"B B wake up! Wake up!" As i shook him awake.
He stared at me blankly.
"Look at the clouds in the mountain!"
"Wtf. Wahlau you woke me up to revenge right? I knew it lah"
"Huh no? I thought you like the clouds so i wanted to show you"
"Wtf I just knew it. I woke you up just now cos it's really very nice and i wanted to show you then now you revenge!"

And both of us burst out laughing hahahaha. And if you must know, yup, i woke him up on purpose LOL.

We headed back to our apartment to wash up before heading to Sakae for the night! Nagoya is also known for their Miso katsu and i found out that Yabaton is famous for that. The initial plan was to go to Sakae's Matsuzakaya Departmental Mall to visit their Pokemon Centre first before having dinner because they are located in the same building but we were too late for pokemon centre :(

I ordered half miso katsu and half with worcester sauce.

Stupid Bryan made me take photos outside but when i said it's his turn, he didn't want -_-

Walked around Sakae after dinner and chanced upon this make-your-own okonomiyaki restaurant located in the basement, along the street. We just had dinner like 30mins ago but being greedy, we decided to try it. It was full of people inside so B reckoned it would be good.

I want to announce that I've managed to converse with the waitress in Japanese!!! *beams proudly* I said a sentence in Japanese, asking her to recommend what's good here. I was prepared for it to fail but guess what, she understood what i said omg. She probably thought i was Japanese or i could understand Japanese because she started speaking to me in Japanese and i just stared at her blankly hahaha. Well, we used sign language + a bit of english to converse after that lol.

No idea what the hell is the one on the left. I wanted to try the okonomiyaki only because we just had dinner but B wanted to order one more item so the waitress recommended that. It just looks like vomit? Lol.

We were supposed to eat them soft and mushy but we didn't know because we didn't understand what the waitress said. So ours was burnt haha but it was such a good experience. I realised Japanese loves supper! There was no lack of eateries, roadside stalls, izakaya and restaurants for supper. In fact, we ate supper every single night in Japan wtf. Everyone was just chilling, drinking, and enjoying their night - something B and i appreciate actually. It was nice to be away from the hectic lives we have in Singapore.
