Since we were there, we just ordered their sides. It was quite crazy actually. I think we were starving so we ordered 3 sides to share and i had a chocolate banana milkshake all to myself. Worst decision ever?! Cos everything was fried and we were just sick of it after a while.
Portobello Mushroom fries, Calamari and Truffle fries (not in picture)
Do not, i repeat, do not order their calamari. We had our worst calamari there. Prior to this, i thought calamari is idiot-proof. Like, how bad could it be right? This was bad. I like their portobello fries and truffle fries though! I especially love their truffle mayo. The chocolate banana milkshake was average, nothing fantastic. Having said that, i'd still come back and try their mains.
For dinner, we decided to have Din Tai Fung.
I ordered the month's special minced meat in mushroom sauce (or something like that) while B had the normal zha jiang mian. I would have ordered their fried rice but i was too full for rice that day. This didn't disappoint though. We also ordered their hot and spicy soup to share and well, it was a hit and miss. If you are planning to try this, don't bother. I'm pretty sure they have other dishes that are so much worth trying on their menu.
Met my pokpoks for dinner last Friday. I wanted to go Hai Di Lao but i was the 99th person in the queue so we gave it a miss and went to Supply and Demand for dinner. Btw, HDL only called me at 9+ so thank god we didn't wait for a table.
My aglio olio that was a bit too oily and salty for my liking. It was alright though, just not impressive.
Can't remember the name of the pizza but pizza could never go wrong huh? Except Pizza Hut's. Do y'all prefer thick crust or thin crust? I like thin crust pizza!
Because joanne, bee and i reached first, we ordered their truffle fries to share while waiting for the latecomers. I thought it was not bad. It was nothing over the roof but the sauce that came with it was good and also, i like fat fries. Lol
Hung out and went to chill at Bar Bar Black Sheep to have a talk over some beer.
Was supposed to go to the flea with ying on Sat but i came home late on friday (reached home at 2am and only slept at 3+) and was so tired i couldn't wake up. Met B late afternoon and we went to Yi Dian Xin to try their dim sum. Apparently, they won quite a few awards. Bryan found them on Seth Lui's blog so we decided to give it a go.
My favourite is their chives dumplings. Their carrot cake and xiao long bao were not bad although i prefer DTF's xlb but for the price, i thought it was quite worth it. Total bill came up to about $35.
I thought it was pretty funny that we had to order our drinks from the coffee shop opposite. Lol. This is a small coffee shop that doesn't have a drink stall. We must have looked really lost because after that they came up to us and told us, "The drink stall is opposite." So Bryan had to cross the small road to get drinks for us. Haha.
We have been feeling quite adventurous with food lately. B and i decided to travel to Yishun to try the 928 assam laksa and Heng Hwa Restaurant.
No photo of the laksa but i thought it was just average. Thankfully the queue wasn't long, we managed to get our food within 5 mins. Bryan's heart will forever be with Katong laksa haha. I thought Katong Laksa was better too even though i've never found laksa to be really delicious.
Heng Hwa Restaurant was like a hidden gem in Yishun though. I came home to tell my parents about it and they just went on Monday right after i told them about it.
Total bill came up at $35 with drinks. We had the set for 2 and swapped one of their dishes to the pork ribs for an additional $2 charge. We reached at about 7+ and had to wait for a while to get a table. If you don't want to share a table with other people, you have to wait even longer. We shared table with another group of 2.
Their white bee hoon is nothing like Sembawang's. While i thought it might be too dry, it actually wasn't. The seaweed was crispy and i thought it was a nice contrast with the noodles. The taste wasn't too strong so if you think it might be too blend, add a bit of chili. The best dish on the table is the prawns in herbs soup. The soup is the bomb. B and i finished all the soup haha.
Headed to Holy Cow Creamery to have desserts. This place is really crowded so be prepared to queue.
We had thai milk tea ice cream and another flavour i couldn't remember because B did the ordering. I love their ice cream! I like how the milk tea taste was so full of flavour and the consistent of the ice cream was really smooth. The waffle, however, paled in comparison. Maybe i was biased because i like waffles that are a little crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Holy Cow's waffle was just soft and didn't make an impression on me.
